Man was estranged from God after the fall of our fore parents, Adam and Eve. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ brought about an end to that era. When He cried “it is finished” on the cross and took his last breath, the veil that separates the holy of holies and the inner court was torn from top to bottom. His death gave us the best gift ever, we now can have direct access to the father through his son Jesus.
In sickness, hardship, poverty, confusion and heartbreak we cry to Him and He hears us. Having a relationship with God is a beautiful gift many people have overlooked. Many have been deceived into believing they cannot access God because they did not go to a fancy theology school and haven’t read the bible cover to cover. To them the idea of talking to God is far-fetched. What would an infinite God want to do with finite man anyway? But the bible says that when we cry out to the Lord He hears us. The only thing that may come in the way of that is sin. So, after accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and turning from sin we do not need borrowed access. There is a place for Sound teaching as God has anointed preachers over us but there is a greater place with only you and God.
We often miss God’s word simply because we aren’t paying attentionRick Warren
Many years ago someone told me that God speaks to me, being the realist that I was (and still am) I didn’t think it was possible. I knew I was saved but I didn’t think I made the criteria of people who God talks too. Are you saved? You make that criteria. The benefit we have as children of God is, we can hear from God. If you don’t recognize His voice, it’s because you do not have a relationship with Him.
The relationship you have with that ‘special someone’ cannot in anyway compare to having a relationship with the Father. You see, God’s love is over and beyond anything you have experienced or imagined. You talk to that ‘special someone’ multiple times a day but you reserve God for the 5 minutes Lord-I-thank-you-for-the-day prayer and anything above 5 minutes becomes a burden.
Who you love you spend time with. God gave us His word as a primary means of speaking to us. So do you want to know what He is saying? Stick your nose in His word. I would go for programs and pray that the man of God calls my name and prophesies over my life and only then would I believe that God had a word for me. The deceptions we believe. God has given us 66 books full of His holy Word. God wants to speak to you. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your understanding and then start from studying your bible and being silent in His presence.
And prayer? Prayer is just you having a conversation with the one you love. Like God there’s this boy I like. It’s that simple. Prayer does not have to be recited or memorized; it does not have to always follow a pattern but let it be you putting into words that which burdens your heart. In times when putting your desires into words seems difficult, he even hears the groanings of our heart that cannot be uttered. He wants us to always be in communion with Him hence we are admonished to pray without ceasing. Try committing your every action to God for a day. Involve Him in every tiny detail including what to eat and what to wear. Do it for a day, then 2, notice the change and do it for a lifetime.
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.Romans 8:26 (NKJV)
Service. Service to the one you love comes naturally. I know it’s easy to cater for people you love but I wonder why we find it so hard to render service to God. Going to church and fellowshipping with people whose hearts are equaling panting after God should come from a joyful place. Telling that person about the love of God would not be so hard if you see it as service to the one you love. Lending a helping hand to people would not be as burdensome knowing that every thing we do for them is a service to Him.
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.Psalms 122:1 (KJV)
This isolation period is a reminder that God wants something beyond the walls of the church. As we teach, let us encourage people to have a personal relationship with God. Let them know why they do the things they do. Let them study for themselves, pray and have personal convictions. Congregational worship is very important in our spiritual work, but God judges us based on our personal altars.
