as it is written, The just shall live by faith

Romans 1:17 (KJV)

To have faith means the belief in the unseen. The bible says it is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.  Christianity as a whole is built on the foundation of faith. It is the faith that Jesus is God who walked on earth, died and resurrected on the third day. This allegation seems wild as nobody on earth was recorded to have predicted the time they will die and resurrect.

By the third day of dying, the human body would begin to decay and smell, but the bible records that on the very third day, Jesus rose up from the grave. And why do I believe the bible? Well, I believe it is the word of God. This is because primarily, the events recorded in the bible are chronologically correct. The stories of various kings and the battles they fought; the stories of Solomon’s palace and the temple which is stated to be one of the greatest projects of all time (at least that is what my construction management classes say), are all in accordance with history.

The bible is also written by 40 authors spread across various timelines and their writings correlate. What are the odds that 40 people of different times will have the same hallucinations? It was not a mere coincidence; it was all inspired by God. But you don’t have to take my word for it. Pray about it and do your research.

  1. Why do I believe in God?

And yes I believe in God. I believe that there has to be a supernatural being somewhere out there above our scope of understanding. When I think of the many things my mind cannot explain like how a baby is formed in the womb in 9 months. Like why the sea knows it’s boundary without anyone marking it out? Or how the cycle of day and night never changes as the earth does not miss its orbit? Science tries to explain these things but is limited and there is still much more that we can ever understand.  I just know that there has to be an existence of a being bigger than all of us. Let’s call it, God.

Science tried explaining how the human race began. Despite the advancement in science and technology, no theory seems to explain why. From the evolution theory of Charles Darwin – that we are all brothers and sisters to apes, to the Big Bang theory – how there was a loud noise and the universe was formed, none of them can pinpoint definitely how the world began. It was a loud noise, it was an amoeba. From who? The ‘let there be light and there was’ sits better with me.

Let us move on to the idea of faith proper. What does faith help us know?

I used to joke around the idea of faith. For example, if I was broke and somebody told me I had money, I would say that that one is by faith. The reality is I do not have money. Or when I was sick, I would say I am healed by faith but in reality I’m dying.

I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!’ and does not doubt in his heart [in God’s unlimited power], but believes that what he says is going to take place, it will be done for him [in accordance with God’s will].

Mark 11:23 (AMP)

This is because I noticed that when a person falls sick in church, they tend to say they were strong instead. For example, if the individual could not come to church and was asked why, he would say ‘I was strong’. It is like we changed the words but intrinsically we mean the same thing. I felt it was unrealistic and kicked against it. I continued with my unbelief until one day a statement dropped in my mind, ‘MAKE FAITH YOUR REALITY’. This rang in my mind for years.

2) Faith in scripture

You see, when Jesus was praying over the 5 loaves and 2 fishes to share with a congregation in their thousands,  He did not cross His fingers to hope the miracle happen. He prayed and He knew God answered him always, so he told the disciples to share. Everyone got fed with leftovers.

I am also reminded of the miracle at the wedding in Cana, Gallilee. Jesus told the servants to fill the jars with water, then fetch the water and serve. Water was poured in but wine was taken out. It takes faith to even believe these things. It took an audacity. He knew it would happen, he was not just trying.

When the centurion came to Jesus about his sick servant, he came with so much faith that Jesus declared healing according to his belief. The servant was healed.

This Good News tells us how God makes us right in His sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the scripture say, “it is through fait that a righteous person has life”

Romans 1:17 (NLT)

Faith is not a credit card that you pull out in times of need; it is what abides within you always. To have faith is to be a believer. The bible notes that anything done outside of faith does not please God. Faith is the means of exchange needed as a child of God. How can you wake up and go about your daily activities without faith?

Today God is calling us to a deeper walk with Him. Speak the things that be not as though they were. I am participating in a 21 days soul challenge by Dephe Aviyah (nee Madyara). It involves picking a verse of the scripture every day and confessing what the scripture says in your life. The catch is, you have to record yourself saying it and hear yourself make these declarations over and over.

Enough of the negative confessions, learn to speak positively especially over yourself.

Do not be limited by the temporal things you see around you. Start saying the things you want to see in your life now.

The way Jesus prays, it’s the audacity for me. I mean, “Father I thank you, because I know you have heard me, you always hear me whenever I call…”, sometimes, he’ll go on to say, “… but because of those watching”, I’ll like to think it means, “I’ve gotten to a point where I’m unperturbed if I don’t see results immediately, but you know Thomas is in the pack, let him know that you can do all things”
I believe the knowledge of our identity in Christ does a lot to our faith. Thank you for the reminder, that I’m loved like crazy, May our faith be strengthened
